Alaska Fishing Regulations
Alaska state fishing regulations can be very complicated to search through to find exactly what you need. First of all there are different rules and regulations based on your Alaskan residency.
Residency Definitions
Residents
The Alaskan Residency is a very strict definition. You need to have lived in the state continuously for a minimum of 12 consecutive months. You also need to have an Alaskan State ID.
Non-Residents
A Non-Resident is anyone who does not meet the residency requirements as outlined above.
Non-Resident Military
This is a special subsect of Non-Resident licenses for Active Duty Military Members Stationed in Alaska that haven't met the 12 consecutive month residency requirement yet.
all residency definitions was pulled from ADF&G Residency Definitions page.
Note: if you have any questions regarding your residency please contact Alaskas Department of Fish and Game's Licensing Section by email at adfg.license@alaska.gov or by phone at (907)-465-2376.
Age Requirements
Non-Residents
If you intend to fish in the state of Alaska as a Non-Resident you are required to purchase a Sport Fishing License unless you are under the age of 16. If you are under the age of 16 you are required to have a harvest card.
Residents
Generally speaking, if you are intending to fish as a Resident then you are required to purchase a Sport Fishing License unless you are under the age of 18. If you are under the age of 18 you are required to have a harvest card.
The other main exception is if you are an Alaska Resident over the age of 60 then you are eligible to apply for a Senior Resident Permanent Identification Card. Note: you must physically go into a ADF&G office to apply and you must have the card number in order to legally fish!
